Friday, July 13, 2018, Thorold, ON - The Joint Accessibility Advisory Committee (JAAC) of Lincoln, West Lincoln, Pelham, Thorold, Niagara-on-the-Lake and Grimsby are excited to announce its "We Are Accessible" campaign this summer.  The campaign is spearheaded by JAAC committee members to recognize local organizations and businesses who have made efforts to provide accessibility for people with disabilities in their community.

Open-Air Fire Ban in Effect

The City of Thorold’s Fire Chief has issued a ban on all open-air fires. This ban includes all backyard recreational fires and all open flame devices. As a result, all burning permits have been suspended. This ban will remain in effect until further notice.

BBQ’s that use natural gas, propane and charcoal are exempted from this ban if they are being used for cooking purposes only. All fires must be extinguished immediately after cooking is complete. No wood fuels are permitted.

For 2018 Construction Staging, Highway 58 Westbound will be reduced to a single lane to public traffic.  The Single lane configuration for Highway 58 Westbound is expected to take place from August 17, 2018 to November 14, 2018.

CN is required to clear its rights-of-ways from any vegetation that may pose a safety hazard.

Vegetation on railway right-of-way, if left uncontrolled, can contribute to trackside fires and impair proper inspection of track infrastructure.

Candidate Nominations and Third Party Advertiser Registration Opens May 1

Starting May 1, candidates interested in running in the 2018 municipal or school board elections will be able to file their nomination papers with the clerk of the appropriate municipality. 

In addition to the mayor, regional councillor, councillor/alderman or school board trustee positions, the regional chair will now be an elected position. Nomination papers for the Regional Chair position will need to be filed with the Regional Clerk’s Office.

Notice of Closure of the South Main Street Bridge

The South Main Street Bridge is closed immediately and indefinitely to pedestrian access due to unsafe condition of the bridge.

The City urges residents to avoid using this bridge.

A Public Information Centre is scheduled for Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Darlene Ryan Port Robinson Centre from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Municipalities, as public sector corporations, purchase a lot of goods and services every year such as vehicles, equipment, road salt, paper towels, photocopy paper, toner cartridges, and computers.

MEDIA RELEASE - DocuPet By-Law Awareness Program

CITY OF THOROLD, December 11, 2017 - Docupet's By-Law awareness program is a City of Thorold approved initiative that is currently operating in several cities across Ontario and in the Niagara Region.  The purpose of the program is to have representatives go door to door to visit all homes in the urban area of the municipality to educate citizens about pet licensing by-laws.

Propagation Ban and Sampling of Plants Susceptible to Plum Pox Virus

Between May and September 2017, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) will be inspecting selected rural and residential properties in the Niagara Region, to sample susceptible trees for the Plum Pox Virus and/or verify compliance with the propagation ban that is in place.  This means that property owners may see CFIA inspectors on their property.
